14-16 May 2010 Battersea Art Centre, Lavender Hill, London SW11 www.bac.org.uk
Fri 6 - 9pm Sat and Sun 11am - 5pm
From 14th – 16th May, 2010 the celebrated artist, Piran Strange, will launch his latest works at The Battersea Contemporary Arts Fair at Battersea Arts Centre, Lavender hill, London SW11.
His work is energetic, funky and highly individual. There will be around 30 paintings for sale with prices starting from £500. Inspired by the notion that within us all ‘lies a Piran’ – a heroic streak that enables us to shine and commit acts of derring-do, the enigmatic Mr Strange has, since his first exhibition in 2006, exhibited his unique style of contemporary art to an ever-increasing clientele.
Piran Strange is, in fact, insurance broker David Barrie’s alter-ego. Initially Piran was the source of confidence that demonstrated to David’s twin boys when they were at art school, the potential for anyone to succeed, if they tried. As director of a UK insurance broking company David Barrie remarks, ‘I discovered the confidence to display and market a remarkable contemporary artistic talent through the inner spirit I call Piran Strange’. Piran Strange’s success has resulted in his work becoming a soughtafter commodity in investment houses and exchanges both here in the UK and abroad.
‘Pirans’ can be found adorning the walls of City companies that include The Benfield Group, R K Harrison Insurance Brokers Ltd., Fox Pitt Kelton, Maxcap Partners and AXIS Capital Holdings. Privately, the popular Piran Strange is collected by The Beckett Family Trust, The Hedley Foundation (Australia), Neil Eckert, James Findlay and The O’Keefe Collection amongst others.
When not creating masterpieces, Piran Strange endeavours to support charitable causes with the creation of bursaries and scholarships for art students and The Piran Strange Art Prize which aims to support emerging young artists.
